Toronto is more interesting than Toronto thinks.
Somewhere along the way it became cooler here to be bearish than bullish. To complain about the rent, the transit, the winter, the scene. All of it is fair. None of it is the whole picture.
The whole picture is that this city is full of people quietly building excellent things — and mostly not knowing about each other. The bakery on Queen East and the furniture maker in the Junction are solving versions of the same problems, six kilometres apart, alone.
6ixplore is a small attempt to fix that. One well-written story at a time about a Toronto business owner: how they started, what nearly killed it, what they know now. And, at the end of every piece, what they actually need — so the readers who can help are able to.
Who gets featured
Founders, yes. But just as importantly, the people who have been here a while and built something the city already loves. A twelve-year-old restaurant is a harder achievement than a seed round, and it almost never gets written about.
Any industry, any borough, any stage. The only real filter is that the person is building something with care, in Toronto.
The rhythm
The letter goes out Thursday mornings. Stories arrive when they are ready rather than on a schedule — if a piece isn’t good enough yet, it waits.
